Smokey Hogg, one of the giants of post-war Texas country blues. This LP reissue of his album, which was compiled from 1947-51 for Modern Records, which recorded more than a third of all his recordings, was released on the Modern-affiliated Crown label in 1961. The songs, which can only be described as free-spirited, are simply the best! The bar counts are a bit of a joke, perhaps because he was an alcoholic, but the throwaway, belabouring songs really sink in.
